Originally Yellow, the car was repainted red just before the last owner took possession in 1978. It’s about a 40 year old paint job, and you would never know it because the car looks quite good. (But this car will blow Luigi away.) Tr3s are quick! Indicated mileage is 56,032 We just got the car from the 40 year owner, who traded it for the Bugeye “Luigi.” He was ready for a change.

TR3s are a blast, and this one is a perfect driver that just about any British car lover will thoroughly enjoy. Also new this week-we completely rebuilt the original speedometer and tachometer and put in new cables so that the gauges are now also good as new! You can see more pictures in the gallery-we spliced in a correct new steel frame section to restore this car for the next 40 years! The welds were ground smooth and the section was sealed and painted black. There’s a small picture at left-you can see how we cut back a section of frame to get rid of any rust and welded in the new section (in black).

Tom drove the car with the frame like it was for the past 40 years without issue, but now it’s fixed right, and the car is stronger than new! No more underside issues! NEW THIS WEEK! A few great repairs and a great driving video! Click below to ride along in this nice Tr3!įIXED! There was a small rusted section of frame on this car-we have cut out that rust and replaced the frame section with new sheet metal. Thank you for your interest.NOW SOLD TO Larry in Georgia! Congratulations Larry! This TR3 is one of the nicest examples available anywhere at any price. It was owned by an enthusiast for decades. It is amazingly nice cosmetically and an exceptional driver.

It needs very minor upholstery and detailing to be a national prize winner. Our TR3 had an exceptional “Concours” quality restoration started and nearly completed. All except the Morgan, hich shared the same engine, ere substantially less powerful.

The TR3's weight was significantly more than the Morgan Plus Four and the 356 Porsches, ut not much more than the MGA and MGB. The front disc or drum brakes and rear drums had no servo assistance. Wire wheels were usually painted, ither body colour or Argent (silver), ut matt chrome and bright chrome were also available. The wheels were 15-inches in diameter and 4.5 inches wide (increased from 4 inches after the first few TR2s), ith 48-spoke wire wheels optional. The rear was conventional leaf springs, ith solid axle and lever arm dampers, xcept that the (box) frame rails were slung under the axle. Unlike MGs of the same period, he steering mechanism and linkage had considerable play and friction, hich increased with wear. The suspension was by double A-arms, anganese bronze trunnion, oil springs and tube shocks at the front, ptional anti-roll bar, nd with worm and peg steering.

This was later increased to 100bhp at 5000 rpm by the addition of a "high port" cylinder head and enlarged manifold. The car was powered by a 1991cc straight-4 OHV engine initially producing 95bhp (71kW 96PS, an increase of 5 hp over the TR2 thanks to the larger SU-H6 carburators fitted. The face lifted variant, opularly but unofficially known as the TR3A, ntered production in 1957 and the final version, nofficially the TR3B, as produced in 1962.
